On 02nd July, DG Shipping issued a circular regarding Maritime Training Institutes charging exorbitant fees via agents, issuing certificates to candidates who do not have the requisite attendance or those candidates who just pay the fees for the course and ask for the certificate.

Measures outlined at G20 meet of Energy and Environment Ministers to tackle marine plastic

Usually when a seafarer reads a headline like this, it results in a sinking feeling as there is the thought of more regulations coming in with regards to plastic disposal.

But this time it is different. At the G20 meet held in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture, Japan on June 16, 2019, environment and energy ministers from the Group of 20 agreed to the outline of a new international framework to tackle the issues of marine plastic waste.

Time and again this question has been asked by many a newcomer in this profession. What all do I need to carry with me?

Generally one can assume that he/she will be flying to the destination where they will be joining the ship. So when packing the bags one must be familiar with the luggage limitations per piece of baggage, the total baggage allowance as well as the number of pieces of baggage as they vary from airline to airline.
